Weekend on SoCo
Saturday, August 14, 2010

My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary with a weekend on South Congress Ave in Austin, TX. These are a few of the pictures from that weekend. A few of these photos were taken with an iPhone4 and edited in the Best Camera app before posting.

Travel Honduras Part 4 (the best coffee ever)

This is Flor. She lives just down the mountain from Siguatepeue. Her husband works as a security guard in town. They have two girls in High School. For her job, Flor makes 100 corn tortillas per day for her employer. She makes $46 LMP (Honduran Lempira) per day. To put this into perspective, that's $2.50 USD. She buys her own supplies and is not reimbursed.

I had the best, freshest coffee ever in Honduras. We have been visiting Senora Rosa all week. On Friday she served us fresh coffee. She harvested the beans from a coffee plant on her property, ground the beans, dried them out, ground them again, added sugar and let sit. When we arrived she boiled water on the fire in her mud stove and poured us a cup. It was amazing! It truly was the freshest coffee I have ever had.

Saturday, July 3, 2010 Saw this from the road while driving through town. I was intrigued by the above ground "temples" that were built in honor of the dead. This is not a usual site in the US (unless you go to New Orleans). The burial sites for loved ones touched me. I found it interesting that even the poorest made sure their deceased loved ones were cared for. While there, we also came up the groundskeepers. They were hacking away at the overgrown grass with machetes.
